Four Plant and Ideas Perfect for Tiny Homes

Home & Garden Blog

With the limited space available in a tiny house, it's important to choose your plants carefully. Wondering what types of plants and foliage you should stock in your little house? Take a look at these ideas:

1. Air Purifying Plants

Ventilation can be difficult in a tiny home, and with such a small space, you don't want to get stuck breathing the same stale air over and over. Luckily, the right plants can help. There are a range of plants that acts as natural air purifiers, and they include peace lilies, bamboo palms, snake plant and gerbera daisies.

Place any of these plants in your little home and let them do the work of an air purifying machine. Alternatively, grow English ivy over your home, and let it purify the air around the exterior of your home.

2. Lettuces and Herbs

Creating a tiny home is often an exercise in combining form and function, and that applies when you are choosing plants for your tiny home as well. To that end, instead of choosing purely decorative plants, consider opting for plants that you can also eat.

Lettuces and other leafy green vegetables are relatively easy to grow inside. They also have a short growing cycle. As a result, you can enjoy the greenery but also enjoy a bit of lunch. In lieu of or in addition to lettuces, also consider planting an herb garden on your kitchen window sill.

3. Air Plants

The main draw of air plants is that they require very little care and very little room. They can often be planted in tiny little pots such as a hollowed out stones and then hung on a wall or from a mobile. As a result, even if you don't have a particularly green thumb, air plants give you a chance to have a bit of foliage in your tiny home.

Unfortunately, however, imported air plants bring bacteria with them, and because of that, the government is cutting down on air plants in Australia as of 2016. However, you may be able to find a nursery who buys wholesales air plant seeds, nurtures them into plants and then sells them.

4. Lavender Plants

If you love sustainability and natural solutions, you may want to put some lavender plants around your tiny home. These plants have a great colour that brightens up any space. However, they also have a built-in insect repellant. Consider putting lavender plants in your windows to keep the flies and moths away from your little home.

Improve your Bathroom

Hello. My name is Tina and this is my home improvement blog. The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house. My mother used to always say that you could discover a lot about a person by how clean their bathroom was. Because of this advice, I have always been very worried about the state of my bathroom. Last year, I was convinced that the bathroom was too old and grubby so I contacted a team of contractors who came out to work on it. They re-tiled the place and installed a new sink and splashback. I really love me new bathroom and I hope you like my new blog.
